CRICKET:IPL 2013 auction list: Michael Clarke, Ricky Ponting fetch top base price!!
New Delhi: It will be Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting, the current Australia cricket in-charge and the former leader, who will also lead the 2013 IPL auctions in terms of the base price. With $400,000 as their reserve price, the Australian duo are joined by South Africa's Johan Botha at $300,000 and India's RP Singh at $100,000 as marquee players during the auction, an IPL media release said.
The IPL 2012 saw Clarke play for the Pune Warriors India. Ponting on the other hand was a Kolkata Knight Riders in the inaugural IPL in 2008. He was subsequently released by the KKR in 2010.
Botha, who played for Rajasthan Royals until the last season, will go into the auction with a base price of USD 300,000 while RP Singh, having been released by Mumbai Indians, will feature in the auction with a base price of USD 100,000.
A large chunk of the list includes players from South Africa, Sri Lanka and Australia - all considered strong twenty20 playing nations. It is noteworthy here that the list does not feature any Pakistan players.
West Indies’ World Twenty20 2012 winning captain and all-rounder, Darren Sammy, will feature in the IPL Player Auction for the first time, with a reserve price of USD 100,000. England’s batsman, Ravi Bopara (USD 100,000) and wicketkeeper batsman, Matt Prior (USD 200,000) have also made it to the auction list.
The list of 101 players feature seven Indians, including Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy winning all-rounder, Abhishek Nayar (USD 100,000), who has been released by Kings XI Punjab. Nayar’s Mumbai team-mate Wasim Jaffer, who scored a title-winning century in the Ranji Trophy final, is also on the list at a reserve price of USD 50,000. Pacers, Sudeep Tyagi, Jaydev Unadkat, Pankaj Singh and Manpreet Gony are the remaining Indians to go under the hammer.
On the list that is dominated by the South Africans, Sri Lankans and the Australians, Ireland’s all-rounder, Kevin O’Brien is the lone representative of the associate countries.
Any of those on this auction list who are not taken during the auction on Feb 3, along with those who made themselves available for the auction but did not make the auction list, may still be signed after the auction as injury replacements.
